When Ambition Meets Unfamiliar Ground: The Journey of Aayat Khan
Success stories often begin with privilege, capital, or perfect timing. The story of Aayat Khan began with something far more powerful: responsibility.
Long before leading retail expansion across continents and negotiating international partnerships, Aayat was a young boy in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, helping his family get by. Today he is an established retail entrepreneur and expansion specialist with over two decades of experience across the Middle East, Africa and emerging markets. His foundation was not built in boardrooms but through adversity, sacrifice and resilience.
A Childhood Built on Responsibility
In Grade 8 Aayat’s life changed when his father fell seriously ill. As the eldest child he took on the responsibility of supporting the household. Alongside managing the family printing business he tutored neighborhood children to bring in income. While his peers focused solely on exams, Aayat balanced household duties, education and financial survival.
Though his father envisioned an academic path for him, Aayat was drawn toward commerce. Real-world experience showed him that business driven by integrity and vision could be a powerful engine for change.
The Foundation in Delhi
Determined to pursue higher education while providing for his family, Aayat moved to Delhi to earn an MBA while working full-time. His days were spent in logistics and supply chain operations, first with DCS Albatross and then in the paper import industry, followed by evening lectures.
The demanding routine offered an education textbooks could not replicate. He learned global trade, inventory management, freight networks and procurement. Most importantly he learned that lasting progress comes from showing up consistently, especially when circumstances are tough.
Humble Beginnings, Ambitious Vision
In 2006 Aayat joined UAE retail powerhouse Landmark Group in an entry-level role. Rather than focusing on title or pay, he treated the position as a chance to learn. He immersed himself in retail operations, merchandising and customer experience.
His commitment brought rapid advancement: a promotion within six months followed by an appointment to Assistant Manager within a year. Later leadership roles with Al Hokair Group and Sacoor Brothers expanded his operational expertise and prepared him for complex international challenges.
Staying the Course in Uncertain Times
In 2010 Aayat took charge of retail expansion across North Africa, covering Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt. When the Arab Spring brought severe political and economic instability, many multinational operators paused expansion or pulled out entirely.
Aayat chose a measured approach. As markets showed early signs of stability, he led store development, strategic procurement and careful inventory planning.
The business he led achieved strong results:
Retail footprint grew from roughly 30,000 sq. ft. to over 500,000 sq. ft.
Annual turnover rose from USD 5 million to USD 72 million.
More than twenty international fashion brands were introduced and expanded across the region.
The experience strengthened his belief that well-run businesses can keep growing and serving customers through difficult periods.
Setbacks and Reinvention
Setbacks followed. Later operational disruptions in Libya led Aayat to diversify into construction and hospitality ventures, which resulted in significant financial losses.
Instead of letting this stall his career, he used it as a chance to reset. In 2018 he returned to corporate retail by joining Sacoor Brothers in a role below his previous executive rank. Accepting a step back allowed him to rebuild momentum and refocus on his core strengths.
The Entrepreneurial Pivot
During the COVID-19 pandemic, global supply chain shocks left brands with unprecedented inventory surpluses. Seeing the potential in off-price retail and branded surplus stock, Aayat co-founded Brand Central, an off-price department store model offering branded fashion at accessible price points.
Launching with ten stores in Libya, Brand Central grew quickly across the UAE, Georgia and Africa. At the same time Aayat supported the market rollout of international brands such as R&B and Skechers across frontier territories, completing his move from corporate executive to business founder.
Scaling Millennials Group and Brand Central
To build long-term resilience, Aayat integrated upstream supply chains by establishing direct sourcing networks across Europe and the CIS under Millennials Group. This operational control delivers several advantages:
Better inventory availability and healthier margins.
Direct relationships with manufacturers.
Stronger quality control and assortments tailored to each region.
Greater protection from wider supply chain bottlenecks.
Today Millennials Group runs four core divisions:
Retail and Franchise Operations
Off-Price Wholesale Trading
Frontier Brand Advisory
Retail Operations Advisory
Together these divisions connect global fashion houses with underserved frontier markets.
Beyond the Balance Sheet
Today Aayat measures success beyond retail square footage and top-line figures. His focus has turned to creating jobs, enabling local businesses and mentoring emerging talent in challenging markets. As Millennials Group targets further expansion across Africa, Iraq and Syria, his guiding principle remains unchanged: genuine growth creates lasting value for the communities it touches.
From tutoring students in Mirzapur to operating across complex frontier economies, Aayat Khan’s path shows that starting points never decide endpoints. Grit, strategic clarity and courage under pressure do.
